ABOUT RUTHIE’S PLACE
Ruthie’s Place will serve three main purposes: (1) Boutique Thrift Store that is part of the social renewal model; Teach one, Reach one. (2) Youth drop-in Support Services Center for the CSEC (Commercially Sexually Exploited Children) and at-risk teenagers that are currently being exploited and trafficked throughout Sacramento County. The drop-in center will be a ‘sacred space’ for CSEC youth within the community…a place that can provide the basics of food, clothing, personal hygiene items, support, resources, connection in an environment where there are credible messengers and peace ambassadors who can become the Safe Gatekeepers for these kids. (3) Provide trauma-informed comprehensive domestic violence services for survivors of domestic violence, family violence, intimate partner violence, LGBTQ intimate violence, and immigrants.
Ruthie’s Place will be a culturally sensitive model that reflects our understanding, firsthand, “insider” knowledge and wisdom regarding the cultural and historical context of these issues and the cultural barriers experienced by these communities and families.
The supportive services for the youth will be providing immediate short-term needs of food, clothing, and a resting place which will support survival needs to reduce or offer some relief from the dependency of exploiters. The drop-in center is a safe sanctuary environment where food, clothing and a safe comfortable resting place, basic food and water, energy drinks, snacks, instant coffee or tea, juice boxes; toiletries/hygiene products; first aid kits, treats, gift cards, prepaid phone cards, and bus passes.
The next level of support will include intervention and needs assessments; Crisis intervention, drop-in counseling, case management services, peer support. Community partners such as Dignity Health and Elica Health that are nearby will support referrals for accessing dental and medical screenings, as well as, Behavioral Health program resources and referrals to other agencies.
