A Community For Peace is preparing for the opening of Ruthie’s Place in Oak Park, which will serve three main purposes:
(1) A culturally relevant and specific way to deliver domestic violence services to this underserved community through this innovative design: A Boutique Thrift Store that provides employment for survivors from the community, a place for artisans to sell their fashion designs through consignment in ways that contributes to the economy of the neighborhood.
(2) “Sacred Space”, a harm reduction Youth Drop-in Center sponsored by Rotary for at-risk youth, from marginalized populations (foster youth, LGBTQ youth needing safe space for a daily respite and/or support. Many of these youth are currently targeted for Commercial Sexual Exploitation, a critical issue facing Sacramento County social services and law enforcement agencies. “Sacred space’ will provide food, clothing, personal hygiene items, support, resources, connection in an environment where there are credible messengers and peace ambassadors who can become the Safe Gatekeepers for these kids.
(3) Provide trauma-informed comprehensive domestic violence services for survivors of family violence, intimate partner violence, LGBTQ intimate violence, and immigrants.
